Remember, spring officer elections are coming up tomorrow, April 16th at our general meeting!
The meeting is at 5:30 ( NOT 7:00! ) and is in RLM 4.102 (the regular room).
All positions are available for IEEE members to run for, and to hold an officer position you must be a registered, dues-paying, national IEEE member. This can be completed shortly after election, if needed.
If you would like to run for a position, come by the office at ENS 133 and sign up outside the door on the lists. If you cannot make it to the meeting but would like to run anyways, write up a speech and have someone give it for you.
Also, ECE Tech Area night is right after our meeting!
Positions are listed in the constitution: http://ieee.ece.utexas.edu/documents/constitution.pdf
The website server has been restored post-power-outage-over-spring-break.
There shouldn't be anything wrong, everything proceeded as normal.
We are now sporting a new and improved, spiffy Google Calendar!
Check out the link at the top of the page that says 'Google Calendar' for a feed of all our upcoming events. All of the events are (should be) the same as the old calendar.
Calendar has been updated with some new information and some changed times. [Explore UT and Fajita Fest]
Also documents [flyer, constitution] have been restored post-update along with images.
The IEEE main website (this site) was updated today at approximately 2:20 PM
Total Downtime: approx. 5 min.
Please notify it.director [at] ieee.ece.utexas.edu if any problems are witnessed.
IEEE is on a roll this year for E-Week!
We are currently in second place behind ASME and in terms of participation points we are WAY ahead.
Our biggest success so far has been going to the Austin Children's Museum on Saturday (Hey, it's not like we had dates or anything). Also attending was IEEE-PES, who brought their power bike - a big hit with the kids.
Because of PES participation and the number of people we had attending the event, we got double points, which means that we still have a fighting chance this E-Week!
As a reminder, our big event of the week (Guitar Hero!) is tomorrow, Monday the 16th at the SSB from 10-12 AM.
All students attending who sign is will get free t-shirts and snacks provided by IEEE (until we run out). Stick around and record your highest score live and the 1-3rd place winners will receive prizes. You do not have to be present to win, you just have to have your score officially recorded by our judge.
Get out there and sign in for IEEE at as many events as possible, we receive points for every single one of you. And who knows, if you get enough you just might get a free ticket to the Salt Lick Dinner next weekend...

The IEEE calendar has been updated with new details about upcoming events, especially in regard to E-Week! We are always in need of help with events and competitions and would like all out members to consider helping us reclaim E-Week glory. IEEE used to be an E-Week powerhouse but in the last couple years we have only placed in second or third.
Things you can help with:
Engineering day at the Museum is a fun event where we go to the Austin Children's Museum and show off some cool stuff to kids. IEEE PES will probably be attending this event with us.
Rube Goldberg competition is another fun event where we build the most complicated machine to do a simple task. This year we are tasked with replacing a lightbulb with a CFL bulb in the interest of energy efficiency. We desperately need help with this event or we may not have enough people to put together a machine - it is a complicated process and it must work.
Explore UT Day is a day where kids of all ages come and explore UT and we get to host fun activities for them to do. We are currently planning on having a radar-gun pitching station where kids can throw tennis balls at targets ( or volunteers... ) and get a speed reading. This is a very easy activity to do. If anyone would like to volunteer or suggest additional activities, please contact the officers.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST
We have a general meeting coming up tomorrow (Thursday, Feb 5) with Avanade. As usual there will be free food and a presentation from the company. Bring a printed copy of your resume to be entered into a drawing (a Zune) from the company!
Today (Jan. 17, 2009) Drupal (the software that runs this website) was updated to the latest version in order to address security vulnerabilities. Total downtime was approximately 15 minutes. If there are any noticeable errors, please report them to:
it.director@ieee.ece.utexas.edu
After a successful second meeting, we now have a full complement of officers for the 2008-2009 school year. The newly elected officers are:
Congratulations to our new officers!
It's barely past Labor Day and already the Branch is going into high gear for the new semester! We just got through our Fall Kickoff and a couple of student organization fairs, and it looks like we'll have a full room for our first meeting. We had nearly 500 people at our Fall Kickoff and more than 100 people sign up with us at student organization fairs, so we're well on our way to another Membership Growth Award.
Please remember to drop by our booth at ParkFest and then go to our first general meeting on September 11 at 7pm in RLM 4.102! ARM will be raffling off an (ARM-powered) iPod, we'll talk about our t-shirt contest, decide on some corporate tours, and of course enjoy some free food! Add the event on Facebook and tell your friends!
